Find Your Gateway to the Allure of Japan

Best Japanese is a website to help people find accurate information on Japanese food, culture, and travel. For example, what make Japanese rice such high quality, which Japanese dramas are currently popular, or what to do when visiting cities like Nagoya in Central Japan. The website also serves as a platform to showcase recipe creators, artisans, guides, producers, and businesses in or connected to Japan. This article will dive into the origins of the website and introduce its founder, Babur, who has a deep personal connection to Japan. Make sure to read until the end to discover his personal favorite dish he would Okawari (more to eat)!

Introduction of Babur, the founder of Best Japanese

“Before I knew it, I had spent 18 years in Japan!”

His connection to Japan is that his mother is Japanese. During a spring holiday spent visiting his Japanese relatives, Babur decided to extend his stay and get to know more of his Japanese roots. This initial plan of a short visit transformed into a captivating journey spanning 18 years. Immersed in the country's rich culture and traditions, Babur experienced firsthand the allure of Japan and developed an unwavering passion for the culture and lifestyle.

After returning to the UK, Babur's bond with Japan remained strong. He joined a Japanese tour operator in Bristol as a consultant, and contributed to the organization of the annual local Japanese event. Currently based in London, Babur is focused on building Best Japanese into a platform where contributors can share their extensive knowledge and experience with a global audience.

The inspiration behind the creation of Best Japanese started from Babur's own experiences and encounters. After receiving numerous inquiries from friends seeking advice on locating authentic Japanese supermarkets and restaurants in London, Babur recognized the need for accurate and reliable information. He also witnessed instances where self-proclaimed "experts" propagated misleading information, highlighting the importance of a credible platform dedicated to Japanese food and culture. With Best Japanese, Babur aims to bridge the information gap and provide a trusted source of knowledge for enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Nagoya Tebasaki would be a dish worth seconds:

“Tebasaki in this style always brings back many great memories”

If there is one dish that he would like to get Okawari (second serving), Babur enthusiastically chooses Nagoya Tebasaki Chicken Wings (“Tebasaki” means wing-tips)

Nagoya is famous for many local dishes like Miso Katsu or Hitsumabushi (grilled eel), also excels in Tebasaki Chicken Wings. These delicious wings, particularly the ones served at Yama Chan, an Izakaya chain specializing in Tebasaki, have garnered large popularity throughout Japan.

Babur's fondness for Tebasaki stems from his 15-year residence in the city. The unique flavor and experience of indulging in Tebasaki at various Yama Chan restaurants evoke cherished memories of his time in Nagoya. While Tebasaki may not be as prevalent as Karaage in the UK, Babur acknowledges their scarcity in local restaurants.

Here is a link to the recipe that he finds an authentic version that you would try and crave Okawari of the Tebasaki.
