Onion Sauce Chicken
Grilled Chicken with Japanese-Style Onion Sauce Recipe
If you're looking to change up your weekday meals or need some new ideas for grilled chicken flavors, I’ve got you covered!
This Japanese-inspired dish features a unique twist on a classic: grated onion sauce.
I discovered this technique while visiting a pottery shop in Japan and have since made it a staple in my cooking routine.
We all know caramelized onions pair beautifully with meat, but this grated onion sauce offers a fresh approach. It tenderizes the chicken, adds a burst of flavor, and brings out the onion’s natural sweetness. This sauce is incredibly versatile and works well with various meats, but today, I’m using it to elevate grilled chicken thighs. Let's dive into this simple yet flavorful recipe.
RECIPE
Servings: 3-4
Time: 20 min
Ingredients:
1 lb Chicken thigh
Salt and pepper
1-2 cloves Garlic, minced
Sauce
1/2 pc Yellow onion
1 tbsp Sake
1 tbsp Soy sauce
1 tbsp Mirin
1 tbsp Honey
My Kitchen Tools:
Instructions:
Prep the Chicken: Season generously with salt, pepper, and grated garlic, ensuring every piece is well-coated for added flavor.
Pan Grill the Chicken: Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down and grill for 4-5 minutes, allowing the skin to crisp up beautifully. Flip the chicken and cook the other side for an additional 5 minutes until fully cooked through.
Make the Onion Sauce: In the same pan, add the grated onion. Then stir in the sake, soy sauce, mirin, and honey. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened and fragrant.
Serve: Plate the chicken and drizzle any remaining sauce on top. Pair it with steamed rice or a side of vegetables for a complete meal.
