Garlic Miso Salmon

Japanese Baked Salmon Recipe with the Flavor of Miso and Garlic

This salmon recipe is one of my go-to party potluck dishes. Toddlers to adults all enjoy this delightful baked salmon.

I recently prepared a large portion for a party of 20, and it seems everyone liked it. Here is why I've decided to share the recipe here.

This Garlic Miso Salmon recipe not only brings together incredible health benefits of salmon but also introduces an umami explosion with the infusion of miso and garlic. The cooking process is easy to follow, making it a must-add to your next salmon recipe ideas.

Let’s begin!

RECIPE

Servings: 6-8

Time: 30 min prep + 2-3 hrs marinate

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the miso, soy sauce, sake, mirin, sesame oil, and freshly minced garlic cloves.

  2. Cut he whole salmon fillet into 3-4 pieces. This not only ensures even marination.

  3. Gently coat each salmon piece with the miso mixture in a bowl (or plastic bag). Place the marinated salmon in the refrigerator, allowing it to soak up the sauce for 2-3 hours.

  4. Preheat the oven 400ºF.

  5. Scrape off any excess marinade. This ensures that the flavors are concentrated, and the salmon achieves a beautiful caramelization during baking.

  6. Place the salmon pieces on an oven tray, allowing some space between them for even cooking.

  7. Bake the salmon for approximately 20 minutes or until the edges are gloriously golden brown, and the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Japanese Garlic Miso Salmon Serving Options:

As the Garlic Miso Salmon emerges from the oven, the aroma alone is enough to entice your senses. Here are some serving suggestions and complementary culinary companions to elevate your dining experience:

  1. Garnish: Sprinkle freshly chopped green onions or cilantro over the salmon for a burst of freshness and a visually appealing presentation.

  2. Citrus Symphony: Serve the salmon with wedges of lemon or yuzu to add a zesty kick that complements the rich umami flavors.

  3. Grainy Goodness: Pair the Miso Garlic Salmon with a bed of freshly cooked rice for a satisfying meal.

  4. Green Delight: A side of cooked vegetables not only adds a pop of color to your plate but also balances the richness of the salmon. (my favorite is stir-fried bok choy!)
