Tri-Color Tofu-Burg Patties with Ginger Soy Sauce Recipe

In Japanese, the humble hamburger patty is affectionately called a Hamburg (ハンバーグ), and when crafted from tofu, it transforms into the beloved Tofu-burg (とうふバーグ). As a child, I fondly remember the kitchen filled with the aroma of these Tofu patties, a budget-friendly alternative that never failed to delight.

Today, I'm excited to share my twist on this classic - introducing the Tri-Color Tofu-Burg! By incorporating vibrant vegetables, this dish not only caters to our vegan friends but also emerges as a delightful option for the whole family. Elevate the experience by dipping these patties in a tasty ginger soy sauce for a delicious dining adventure!

RECIPE

Servings: 8-10 medium size patties

Time: 30 min

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the tofu in a paper towel and place a weight on top to remove excess water. Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

  2. Create the dipping sauce by combining grated ginger and soy sauce in a small bowl. Set aside for later use.

  3. Defrost the edamame beans by pouring boiling water over them. Once thawed, remove the beans from the sack.

  4. Thinly slice the carrot into small pieces.

  5. In a mixing bowl, crumble the tofu and add the edamame beans, sliced carrot, canned corn, egg, and potato starch. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

  6. Form the tofu mixture into patties.

  7. Heat frying oil (1tbsp) in a pan over medium heat.

  8. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the tofu patties into the pan. Cook each side for 3-4 minutes or until golden and crispy.

  9. Once cooked, remove the tofu-burg from the pan and place them on a serving plate. Serve hot alongside the ginger soy sauce for dipping.

Recipe is inspired by Ganmodoki, traditional Japanese Tofu dish:

Ganmodoki is a Japanese dish made primarily from tofu. It is often described as a type of tofu fritter or tofu dumpling. The name "Ganmodoki" translates to "mock goose" in English, indicating its origin as a substitute for goose meat.

It has a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The tofu provides a soft and creamy interior, while the vegetables add crunch and earthy sweetness. The seasoning enhances the umami taste, making Ganmodoki a satisfying and flavorful dish.

Just same as Ganmodoki, this Tri-Color Tofu Patties are not only delicious but also nutritious. It is rich in protein from the tofu and contains a variety of vitamins and minerals from the vegetables. Additionally, tofu is low in calories and cholesterol, making this Tofu dish is a healthy option for those looking to incorporate more plant-based foods into their diet.
